A one-day Seminar on "Mathematics and Reality" was organized by KIIT School of Applied Sciences (Mathematics) in association with Bhaktivedanta Institute, Kolkata on 30th August, 2018. Inaugurating the event, the Vice Chancellor of KIIT Deemed to be University, Prof. Hrushikesh Mohanty spoke about Mathematical Patterns in nature and its' great relevance to the modern world. Shri Varun Agarwal, Director and Shri K. Vasudeva Rao, President of Bhaktivedanta Institute elucidated about scientific discoveries, mathematical formulae and consciousness. The concept of 'Life' in a greater perspective in connection with Quantum Science was also presented. Prof. S. Nanda, Head, CIR also elaborated the topic further and emphasized on the relevance of the topic to the scientists and technocrats of tomorrow. The seminar was organized as a pre conference event on the same topic to be held at IIT, Bhubaneswar on 6th and 7th October, 2018. Faculty members and a large number of students participated in the Seminar.

Prof. Pier Luigi Luisi has confirmed his presence as a distinguished speaker.

Prof. Pier Luigi received his scientific education at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy. In 1970, he became professor at the Institut für Polymere at the ETH-Zürich and since 2006 he is part of the biology department of the University of Roma Tre. As a biochemist, he pioneered an active research in the self-organization of synthetic and biological systems, the origin of life, and semi-synthetic cellular systems (the so-called "mininal life"). Interested in the interface between science and humanities, in 1985 he founded Cortona week, legacy to this Todi-week, and participated, in 1987, to the foundation of Mind and Life in Dharamsala, India, with Francisco Varela and the Dalai Lama

Prof. Manohar Lal is a product of IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and University of Delhi. He completed his M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) form IIT Kanpur; pursued his second Ph.D. in CSE from IIT, Delhi. Earlier, he completed his master's and Ph.D. programmes in mathematics from University of Delhi. He has vast teaching experience of more than 32 years at various universities including University of Delhi and JNU. He has been Professor and Head of Computer Science Department and Director, Computer Centre/Division at H.P. University, Shimla as well as M.D. University, Rohtak. Prof. Lal has long research experience. Earlier he worked in the area of 'Error - Correcting Codes' (a branch of networking/Data Communications). Currently he is working in the areas of 'Automation of Reasoning' (a branch of Artificial Intelligence) and Computer Networks. He has large number of publications in these areas in national and international journals of repute and has guided research students in these areas. Also he is associated with large number of academic bodies in various capacities. Dr. Lal is with IGNOU as Professor since July 1998 and as Director, SOCIS from January 03, 2000 to January 18, 2004
